Yorkshire Wolds Beekeeper Visit
Greenside Lodge, Little End, Holme upon Spalding Moor, York YO43 4DS
Visit to a beekeeper in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds. Colin Hattee was an officer with the York and District Beekeepers Association, and is a major force in local apiary circles. His home apiary is in Holme upon Spalding Moor, but he has hives all over the East Riding. He and Debbie plan to allow us to get really close to the bees, as well as showing us the production methods and tasting the finished product.
The visit is limited to 10 people because of the availability of protection – 5 visiting the bees, the others in the apiary. Children suits are available. Deadline for reservations and payment is 18 June 2010. Please contact Roger Pinder (secretary@slowfoodnorthyorkshire.co.uk) for reservations. Full protective veils and hats will be provided by our host. You should bring boots, wellingtons or other footwear to protect legs, plus sturdy gloves (leather or other) to protect your hands.
Members ₤4, Non-members ₤6. Anyone who is strongly allergic to bee stings should not subscribe.
For Greenside Lodge; in Holme proceed down A614 (Moor End) towards Howden/Goole; 400m beyond junction with A163 (High Street) turn right into Little End.
In case of inclement weather (rain and/or strong wind) the bees do not fly, and the visit will be postponed to a later date.
Members are always welcome to suggest "slow" events and outings too! Contact leader@slowfoodnorthyorkshire.co.uk.
